Winter is prime time for targeting aggressive, ocean-fresh steelhead on Southern Oregon’s rivers. From January through early April, winter steelhead push upriver in strong numbers, offering some of the most exciting fishing of the year. Prime Winter Steelhead Season (January–April)

It is winter steelhead time on the Rogue River. Water levels have been up and down all season but it has brought some fish in. Water levels are looking great for the upper river around Grants Pass up to Shady Cove. We have been having success drift fishing yarn, bait and bnr soft beads. 14 - 20mm. We have also had some monster take downs on the plugs. k11 quickfish, 3.5 mag lips and wee wigglers have all been getting attention. We have dates available for March and April. The highlight of the season for me was my oldest son Zane catching his personal best Chinook Salmon. He hooked the 39" monster first cast on the morning of day four. After a 15 minute fight on 10lb test line and a number 2 hook he was able to get the fish to the net. I am super proud of him and we all enjoyed a lot of smoked salmon.

Still having some fun blasting & casting on the Rogue. The upper Rogue river has opened back up for bait and we have been doing good on the middle Rogue fishing plugs and flies. We are currently booking winter Steelhead trips on the Rogue and Umpqua rivers for January through April. All gear is included and our boats are heated. You can book online or over the phone. The Rogue Canyon is a special place in the Fall. We look forward to this time of year every year. Starting in September we are targeting Fall run Chinook Salmon and Summer run Steelhead. As the season progresses we start seeing a good number of "half-pounders" . This year we finished off the season in October with a strong run of Coho Salmon. The Coho's are a blast to catch on light tackle. We were getting them on bait, plugs and flies. We are currently booking four day three night trips for the 2024 season.

With consistent river flows all season we have seen a nice shot of chrome bright Summer run Steelhead. We have been having success pulling plugs and on flies. Pound for pound these are some great fighting fish. Nothing beats the take down on a light plug rod. Note: just because they are on the hook doesn't mean they are coming to the boat. These fish are fighting for their lives and we are just here to have a good time.  We are just over a month away from our first Rogue Canyon Fishing Trip of the season. Fall on the Rogue is one of our favorite times of the year.

Even with the low and clear water there has still been some great fishing and some great weather. It looks like there is significant rain in the forecast which should get things rolling again. We have a few dates still open for March if you would like to get in on some great Winter fishing on the Rogue or Umpqua rivers.

We also had a productive late fall season primarily running BLAST & CAST trips on the Rogue River. The Steelhead fishing was great this Fall and most trips had success hunting both Canada Geese and Mallard Ducks. There is less than a month left for this seasons Blast & Cast but we do have a couple dates left. We are also booking for next Fall. ​
We will be spending the rest of the winter fishing the Rogue and Umpqua river systems for hard fighting Winter Steelhead. We fish the winter run from January into April. All gear is included and we use heated drift boats to keep you comfortable on colder days. Here are a few of the winter fish from last season.

Spent the last week fishing the Umpqua River System for winter steelhead. There was a lot of pressure on some of the sections of the river but we were able to get away from the crowd for a few of the days. Most fish are being caught side drifting but, we did pick up a couple on plugs. The rain has muddied things up but the Upper Rogue River and the North Umpqua are still fishing. Once the water starts to drop we will be fishing the South Umpqua and Middle Rogue River for hard fighting winter fish. You are able to harvest two adult Steelhead per day per person on both the Rogue And Umpqua Rivers. We have dates available in February March and April for Winter Steelhead.  We also have a few remaining dates available for our Rogue River Canyon Fall fishing adventures. These trips are offered September, October, and November. The early dates are prime for big Fall Chinooks and the later dates offer excellent Steelhead and Coho Salmon fishing. Lodging and meals included.

There are a some nice keeper fish being caught on the Upper Rogue River. With over 1000 Spring Chinook already making it up to the Cole River Hatchery and hundreds of them being re-run down to the Gold Hill Sports Park on Thursday, there are fish in the river. The increase river flow from less than 1000 CFS (Cubic feet per second) to over 1900 CFS in about a week has slowed the bite. If your willing to put some time and effort in the reward can be tasty! Only fin-clipped Salmon may be kept on the Rogue River all Wild fish should be released.
