Rogue River CanyonRunning deep and strong through southern Oregon's Siskiyou mountains , the Rogue river features exceptional fishing, abundant wildlife, incredible scenery and rich history. It is this combination of characteristics that inspired Congress in 1967 to include the Rogue as part of the original Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. Still, here over forty years later the fishing on the Rogue remains unsurpassed.
Recognized as salmon and steelhead paradise, the Rogue provides fishermen and women with idyllic pools and quiet fishing holes that teem with fish journeying upriver from the nearby Pacific Ocean. Steelhead in the fall range from one to two feet long and weigh up to eight pounds. Chinook (king) salmon up to 40 pounds are also caught. And, the smaller silver (coho) salmon up to 12 pounds ply these waters. This is offered as a three or four day trip. Each night is spent in rustic fishing lodges that provide comfortable accommodations as well as delicious dinners and breakfast. We have lunches on the rivers edge which is based around the catch of the day! These canyon trips are ran on MRP 24 with Noah's Wilderness Adventures. John Day RiverFISH ON! Blackbass fishing, smallmouth bass fishing or fishing for 'smallies". It makes little difference what name you use for these spunky fish, the main thing is to realize that they are very aggressive and fun fun fun to catch. The John Day is the longest free flowing river in Oregon, and the second longest free flowing river in the continental U.S. It boasts the healthiest population of wild summer steelhead in the Northwest, and a significant population of wild spring Chinook. In spite of the good steelheading, smallmouth bass have become the John Day's most popular attraction since their introduction in 1971.
Summer bass fishing is the main draw to the John Day from April through September. Fly fishing is the most popular method, although casting small lures with light spinning gear is also very effective and fun. This is a family smallmouth bass fishing adventure that will be remembered for a lifetime. We have also introduced this fabulous fishery to corporate fishing groups and fly fishing clubs. How would you like to catch (and release) 50+ smallmouth bass per person per day? We drift 35-58 miles of spectacular secluded river filled with smallmouth bass. The Department of Fish and Game estimates that there are 4000 smallmouth bass per mile. We rarely see another raft on the entire trip. We camp out under starlit skies, eat mouth-watering meals and experience camaraderie that can only be felt camping on a wild and scenic river. |
